Mhadei Herpetofauna Trek Led by Nirmal Kulkarni

The Mhadei region is a treasure trove of biodiversity that has escaped systematic cataloguing as far as Herpetofauna is concerned.

With species like the King Cobra, Flying Draco and Olive Forest snake amongst others, these forests also harbor 3 species of pit vipers, over 5 species of keelbacks and much, much more…

For those who wish to undertake an arduous trekking expedition through Western Ghats canopy forests, cross the Mhadei waters at picturesque locales and are game on camping in forests in sleeping bags, this trip is meant for you.

Our expedition will take us through the Mhadei Wildlife sanctuary of Goa and the newly declared Bhimgad Wildlife sanctuary of Karnataka.

Join us on this grueling expedition to search and document Herpetofauna – as well as other lesser-known fauna – as we traverse a hitherto unknown section of the Mhadei Bio region, connect with resident communities, and undertake the first photo documentary survey in these remote parts.

Essentials include physical fitness and stamina to trek long distances, basic experience in working in field conditions in forest areas and affinity for lesser-known biodiversity.

Team strength will be restricted to 8 members only.
Date- 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th November 2010.
